I am proud to say that the organization, started as a peace initiative in a small town of Bihar (India), has spread in other parts of Bihar and neighbouring states of Jharkhand and UP. It has traversed a fair distance to achieve the respect as an accountable CBO in the social development and welfare sector. On this journey, we have consciously made effort to reach out to the most disadvantaged and the poorest of poor sections of society in undeveloped/underdeveloped areas and provide support to the needy with a wholesome approach.
Starting with awareness generation and direct service delivery programmes the organization has expanded its activities into skill development and capacity building programmes. The organization specifically chose basic issues of health, education, women & child development and livelihood for its interventions because states of Bihar, Jharkhand and UP lagged behind others on these human development indicators. The building process is still continuing as these basic issues need sustained effort.
Socio-economic, cultural norms and demands of society keep on changing with time. The real strength of any organization working in social development sector is exhibited in its ability to build capacity of its citizens for creation of demands and optimally utilize given resources, even after external supports are withdrawn. On this front, Shantidoot has focused its effort on training programmes and strengthen capability of smaller organizations working at grassroots level.
While continuing with its programmes of direct interventions, the organization is endeavouring to build networks on different issues of public interest for giving a common voice to citizen’s demands and advocacy at the highest levels of decision makers. At the ground level, Shantidoot has taken initiatives to provide opportunities for capacity building to youths, the future of our society; to keep pace with technical and professional demands of emerging times.
