  • Health & Hygiene

Health is one of the seven Basic Minimum Services (BMSs) identified for priority attention under the Minimum Needs Programme (MNP). Nearly 60% of the central budget for health is spent on the five national disease control programmes (Leprosy, Malaria, TB, HIV/AIDS and Blindness). Higher ratio of major health indicators like infant mortality rate, maternal mortality ratio, total fertility rate, etc., especially in BIMAROU states, reflect poor health status of its citizens.

Recognizing the need for major intervention, Shantidoot is sincerely working in health sector to develop and strengthen socially acceptable, practical and community-based care programmes that also meet the basic needs for clean water and sanitation. In last 20 years, the organization has developed good experience and expertise by organizing and implementing programmes addressing different issues affecting individual and community health. The programmes include survey & analysis, awareness generation activities, counselling, service delivery, advocacy & network development for programmes and developing network to garner support for the same.

Due to the experience and expertise developed in health sector, the organization is recognizes as a Mother NGO for RCH (Reproductive Child Health) and AYUSH (earlier Indian System of Medicine & Homeopath) schemes by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India. As a Mother NGO, it has strengthened and developed capacity of nine NGOs of Sheikhpura District (for RCH) and four NGOs of Begusarai and Nalanda Districts (for AYUSH). The organization has also not left behind the modern day health problems like drug abuse, STD/HIV/AIDS and child trafficking.
